Val di Zoldo lies in the Belluno Dolomites between Pelmo and Civetta, about two hours from Venice airport. If you want peace, seclusion, real villages and big mountains, this is the place. There is no mass tourism here, and in the evening the valley falls quiet.

Why the Zoldo valley?

  • Wonderfully quiet: away from the big tourist crowds, no high-rise hotels, and at night you often hear nothing but the Maè river.
  • Gentle tourism: the valley belongs to the Alpine clubs' Mountaineering Villages, a network of places that deliberately stand for quiet, nature-friendly mountain holidays.
  • Authentic: small mountain villages with old wooden houses and tabià barns and people who live here rather than just rent rooms. And often surprisingly affordable for the Dolomites.
  • Still big: the Civetta ski area is part of Dolomiti Superski, and the Alta Via 1 crosses the valley.

  • March: long, bright days and spring skiing. Down in the valley the thaw begins.
  • April and May: changeable. There is still snow up high, while everything turns green below.
  • June: pleasantly warm, sometimes with snowfields left on the high paths.
  • July and August: warm, often 20 to 25 °C in the valley during the day. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so start early.
  • September: usually settled and clear, with cool mornings. For many the best time for hiking.
  • October and November: the larches turn yellow and it gets cool. November is often grey and the quietest month.
